Journal of Commerce to Launch New JOC Inland Distribution Conference in Kansas City, Missouri
NEWARK, N.J. — The Journal of Commerce (JOC) announced that its new event, the JOC Inland Distribution Conference, will take place in Kansas City, MO in September 2013. The JOC Inland Distribution Conference is the successor to the JOC Inland Ports Logistics Conference which took place in Chicago, IL in 2011 and Oak Brook, IL in 2012.
The conference program will be held on September 18-19, 2013 at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center. As part of the event, there will be organized visits of the leading logistics facilities in the area as well as networking activities.
Peter Tirschwell, Senior Vice President of Strategy at JOC and Program Chair for the event said, “We’re excited to be organizing this event in Kansas City following our success in the Chicago area. The new event will be broader in focus and we’ll be reaching a wider audience involved in the inland logistics arena.”
Inland distribution is the process of strategically transporting and positioning imported goods at inland locations for effective onward distribution to retail locations and direct to consumers. Once imported goods hit North American seaports a myriad of choices confronts the retailer or consumer goods company based on the unique requirements of their own supply chain and business model: Should onward movement be via intermodal or truck, and if the former, intact in the container or transloaded? How can transportation be dynamically deployed based on the ebbs and flows of freight rate markets? Where should distribution centers be optimally located? What port gateways and coasts should be used?
The JOC Inland Distribution Conference will take an in-depth look at these critical questions, drawing out insights and perspectives from some of the leading thinkers and practitioners in the inland distribution arena. The conference program will be organized by the JOC editorial team with input from industry stakeholders. If you are interested in speaking, please contact Peter Tirschwell on ptirschwell@joc.com
The event will attract around 300 key decision makers from the following types of companies:
- Shippers – importers, exporters, retailers, manufacturers
- Ports – inland and ocean
- Ocean Carriers
- Railroads
- Trucking Companies
- Distribution Centers/Warehouses
- Government Officials
- 3PLs / Freight Forwarders
