NYK Volunteers Contribute Over 1,000 Days of Their Time to Rebuilding Efforts in Area Devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake

TOKYO — On December 8, a volunteer team from the NYK Group completed its final activities for the year as NYK concluded its third multi-month period during which teams of employees, board members, and former employees have been sent to Rikuzentakata city in Iwate prefecture to assist in restoration and revival of an area devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011.

A total of 300 NYK volunteers have now contributed over 1,000 days of their time to help in the recovery.

Teams of volunteers were initially sent on three-night, four-day missions from October 4, 2011, to December 19, 2011, to assist a local volunteer center in its daily activities, such as the removal of mud and debris, and cleaning the area’s farms. More teams followed on four-night, five-day missions from April 18, 2012, to July 1, 2012. And this third period saw each team giving four nights, fives days of their time from October 10, 2012, to December 8, 2012.

NYK will continue its efforts to support those in need to fulfill the group’s commitment to remaining a socially responsible corporation.
