As we enter 2012, the world economy is expected to remain on a course of growth and stabilization. The global container supply is expected to maintain its recovery and, according to Drewy Shipping Consultants, container manufacturing is projected to exceed 4 million 20-foot-equivalent units, with the global container fleet likely to reach a new record high, topping 34 million TEUs.

The safety of container and chassis equipment, in both condition and use, will remain a major focus for all segments of the containerized transportation system. Efficiencies in containerized transportation will continue to improve through the deployment of larger container vessels, increased container payloads and entry into new markets, placing greater reliance on equipment capability, quality and serviceability.

Collaborative efforts will continue be required among the many parties involved in the international containerized transportation system to maximize the benefits and minimize the costs as equipment and systems designs are refined to meet the evolving market requirements.
