"We, as consumers, are fully immersed in digital." This won’t raise your eyebrows and probably won’t even catch your attention, what with that small device we carry around in our pockets, handbags — or in our hands ready for action — with which we do practically everything, every day. We make calls, take pictures and notes, consume news and information. We share experiences, order our groceries, taxis, and babysitters.

You could agree that, as consumers, we all assume that the world revolving around us is just as digital as the device in our hands. You would think that the big players moving business to business would be just as aligned as the digital channels and processes flowing from business to consumers. Never trust assumptions, for this is all but true.

The fact is, the colossal and far-reaching world of transport and logistics is nowhere near the last mile to becoming fully digital. So, for 2019, the challenge remains as is today: digitization.

We need players in transport and logistics to step up in their digital transformation efforts. The only way to secure accurate and trustworthy information that will make for and contribute to a transparent, data-sharing ecosystem is by getting all stakeholders to fully digitize their piece of the puzzle. It will moreover make business more efficient, effective and productive, for everyone in the value chain.

At Avantida, the platform we offer shipping lines is fully digitized: Services are offered to transporters and forwarders that optimize their road transport planning. Where before they would exchange information over the phone, fax, or email, they now enjoy a fully digital process. In 2019, we’ll be investing in digitizing new operational processes to create new business opportunities and further contribute to the digital transformation of transport and logistics.
