We will likely see the continued advancement of three disruptive mega-trends in the industry: the technological empowerment of the mobile workforce, the Internet of Things and cloud technology. These trends will support the real-time intelligence movement and give businesses powerful information about all of their critical assets, including what they are, where they are and what their condition is.
Workers in every organization are on the move, and these mobile workers need tools to allow them to use cloud-based applications and feed those applications with real-time information about assets in their environment.
The Internet of Things and cloud computing will continue to be a focus in the enterprise. Zebra recently commissioned a global study conducted by Forrester Consulting that showed that senior IT decision makers inside key industries around the world agree that the IoT is transformational. Over 80 percent of respondents agree that “IoT solutions will be the most strategic technology initiative and the most important technological initiative in the decade.”
The IoT is also vital for the creation of the smart supply chain. A connected environment can enable efficient and accurate freight and cargo tracking using real-time data to optimize routing and ensure delivery of all assets to its final destination.
These trends will change the way businesses operate around the world.
