The biggest challenge facing container shipping in 2022 is a lack of technology across the global supply chain. A lack of cargo visibility and supply chain integration and the resulting inability to anticipate and alleviate problems are challenges that technology can ease.

Global supply chains are complex, with many handoffs, and will always have an inherent risk of disruption from unexpected events like the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic accelerated and magnified the challenges that already existed in supply chains.

For example, a single container can require up to 100 physical document exchanges per trip, adding 20 percent to shipping costs. Digitalizing these interactions on a platform like Trade-Lens where they can be more easily processed will ensure that goods move more effectively through customs checks and across borders, comply with trade regulations, offer better cargo visibility, support business continuity, and improve cash flow for companies.

By digitalizing and integrating data on an industry-neutral platform like TradeLens, the industry can face tomorrow’s challenges and better connect and simplify the world’s supply chains.
