Both machine learning and AI have immense potential that has remained largely untapped. Global organizations want more automation within their supply chain to tackle issues like inflation and demand volatility. As it is, our world is heavily paper-based, and a lot of industry knowledge and processes still live in the heads of professionals. With AI/ML, there are so many applications of it showing progress in systemizing this information, digitizing operations and bringing organizations to the next level.

Generative AI, in particular, has emerged as a transformative force with the potential to revolutionize the global supply chain, including the power to serve as a co-pilot to help operations and customer service organizations do their jobs better, faster and reducing the impact of turnover. What is important for people to realize is that this technology is here in our hands right now, and we need to do our job in understanding it and evaluating how to best apply it.

Many ask, “what is the future of the logistics industry?” Well, organizations have embraced automation, but there are many supply chain leaders who still look to antiquated processes when evaluating productivity. Automation already exists in logistics with delivery vehicles, dark warehouses and even in some of the port terminals, however the future will require automation work in tandem with STP.

There are areas of the logistics industry that still require the human touch. The human component of relationship building with suppliers and other areas of business cannot be replaced. Being responsive and likable with stakeholders still plays a key role in business success.

Visibility is becoming a standard. It is no surprise that most businesses only have basic visibility into their supply chain, but pairing visibility with the right tools, such as control tower, or other enabled solutions, will bring one’s operation to the next level. In the near future, it will not exist as an independent product anymore.
