One important conversation that continues is the inadequate funding of the US Army Corps of Engineers to operate and maintain our nation’s ports and construct the projects that have been authorized and identified as having significant benefit to our nation.
Considering that 98 percent of all goods and commodities are moved by water, ports should be considered a national priority. Additionally, the Panama Canal’s expansion has made a significant difference in traffic patterns. We are seeing an increasing number of neo-Panamax vessels call the nation’s ports, intensifying the need for national support of deeper waterways and enhanced port infrastructure.
