Allcargo’s founder and chairman awarded honorary doctorate
Mumbai – The Founder and Chairman of Allcargo Logistics Ltd, Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty has been awarded an “Honorary Doctorate” at the 33rd annual convocation by Mangalore University yesterday.
At the ceremony held yesterday in Mangalore during the Annual Convocation of the University, 88 candidates received their PhD’s and 37 members were awarded gold medals. The event was facilitated by Professor Goverdhan Mehta, Vice Chancellor Mr. K Byrappa and Governor of Karnataka Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala.
Mr. Shetty received this honor for his immense contribution in the field of healthcare to the underprivileged in Mangalore through the Avashya Foundation. The Foundation also undertakes social welfare schemes encompassing national disaster relief, health care, education, sports, women empowerment and environment sustainability in India.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Shetty said: “As alumni of this esteemed university, it is a great privilege to receive honorary degree from the institute that has since 1980 contributed to all aspects of education. I would like to dedicate this award to my family, friends and mentors who have guided me through these years. Their support was very important for me to achieve this award”.
This adds another "prestigious" feather to his cap after being conferred with the “Distinction of Commander of the Order of Leopold II” by the Royalty of Belgium early this year in February.

Under his leadership today Allcargo is India’s largest private sector Logistics Company listed on BSE & NSE. Former director of IISc, Bengaluru Goverdhan Mehta and educationist B V R Chowdari of Singapore also received the honorary doctorate at the convocation.
Mangalore University is the third best educational institution in Karnataka whose department of chemical sciences is ranked the second best and department of physics ranked number one across the country. The institute has been accredited by University Grants Commission, National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), Bar Council of India (BCI) and received Grade A accreditation from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2014. Alumni include Rajeev Suri CEO Nokia and VG Siddhartha, founder owner, Café Coffee Day.
