…and the winner of the 2011 "Young International Freight Forwarder of the Year Award" is Ms Silvia Vallés Barrera, Ireland (Region Europe)
Ms Silvia Vallés Barrera composed an outstanding paper on an import consignment (air freight) of rabies-infected racoon brain tissue from the U.S to Ireland and the export shipment (sea freight) of a CT (computed tomography) Scanner (relief goods) from Ireland to a hospital in Moshi, Tanzania. Her presentation at the final assessment on 16 October in Cairo, Egypt was enough to fully convince judges of the Steering Group of the Award to announce her as the winner of the 2011 “Young International Freight Forwarder of the Year”. Our sincerest congratulations go out to Ms Silvia Vallés Barrera for her outstanding achievements! Silvia Vallés Barrera currently works for Hawthorn Logistics in Dublin as an Air & Sea Operations Executive. She was born and raised in Catalonia, Spain afterwards she emigrated to Ireland where she enrolled and completed the FIATA Diploma through the Irish International Freight Association (IIFA). Prior to her vocational training, Silvia spent 2 years in the U.S where she completed a Master’s degree in Economics. Silvia was very delighted with her success as reflected through her comments “it has definitely been a positive experience for me, overall interesting and challenging and I hope this competition keeps on attracting promising talents for years to come”. The other three regional winners invited to the FIATA World Congress in Cairo (16 to 21 October 2011) were: Region Africa/Middle East : Mr Niranjan Venkatesh, United Arab Emirates Region Americas : Ms Rosa Maria Gallardo Reyes, Mexico Region Asia/Pacific : Mr Lai Kin Wong, Hong Kong As winner of the 2011 YIFFY Award, Silvia will get the opportunity to attend a week long course “Insight into Transport Law and Insurance” at one of TT Club’s regional centres in London, Hong Kong or New Jersey. Additionally, she will receive a one year’s subscription to the International Transport Journal (Switzerland) and the International Freighting Weekly (UK). Documentation for the 2012 Award has already been distributed since September of this year.
