Singapore, 24 May 2010 -- APL, the world's fourth-largest container shipping line, said today that Vice President of Corporate Security Earl Agron has been named to an advisory panel of the World Customs Organization (WCO).

The organization this month appointed Agron, a 30-year shipping industry veteran, to the Private Sector Consultative Group. The 30 members of the group advise on security and facilitation of global trade.

The Private Sector Consultative Group has established itself as a knowledgeable, credible and supportive body to the WCO, said Kunio Mikuriya, Secretary General of the World Customs Organization. “I am sure that we will be able to count on – and benefit from – Mr. Agron’s enthusiasm, experience and expertise.”

The World Customs Organization is made up of officials from Customs organizations around the world. Among its objectives is synchronizing Customs rules to keep global trade flowing smoothly.

Giants of business and industry including General Motors, Microsoft and Limited Brands are part of the consultative group. APL is the only container shipping line represented.

Securing supply chains while maintaining cargo flow is essential to global trade growth, said Agron. I look forward to working with the Private Sector Consultative Group on balancing those two critical needs.

Agron manages security for APL’s liner shipping and logistics businesses. In addition to his role at the World Customs Organization, he’s a member of COAC -- the commercial advisory committee that counsels the U.S. Treasury and Department of Homeland Security on trade policy.
