Appointment to the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority

OTTAWA — The Honourable Steven Fletcher, Minister of State (Transport), today announced the appointment of Mr. Allan Rowe of Bedford, Nova Scotia, to the board of directors of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) for a three-year term, effective May 3, 2012.

“I am pleased that Mr. Rowe has agreed to serve on the board of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority,” said Minister Fletcher. “His vast experience in aviation and business development will be a valuable asset to the authority.”

Mr. Rowe holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario. He served as the Chief Financial Officer of Chorus Aviation Inc. from 2004 to 2011. Prior to this, Mr. Rowe served as the Chief Financial Officer of Fishery Products International Limited, and in various senior financial executive roles with the Empire Company Limited. Mr. Rowe has significant experience with mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, planning and business development, business turnaround and management of organizational and cultural change. He is a past Chairman of the Pictou Regional Development Commission.

CATSA, established on April 1, 2002, is a federal Crown corporation. It is responsible for the screening of passengers and their belongings, and screening of non-passengers entering airport restricted areas, as well as any items in their possession. CATSA and Transport Canada work together in aviation security, each with very distinct mandates. CATSA screens 52 million passengers and 62 million pieces of checked baggage each year.
