OTTAWA — The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Mr. Ron Crema to the board of directors of the Port Alberni Port Authority for a three-year term.

“I am pleased that Mr. Crema has agreed to serve on the board of the Port Alberni Port Authority,” said Minister Lebel. “His in-depth management experience in product distribution, including warehouse management and shipping, will be a great asset to the Authority.”

Mr. Crema has over 25 years of experience in distribution and, since April 2010, has worked independently as a distribution and change management consultant. For nearly 20 years, he was manager of distribution for Canadian paper manufacturers Catalyst Paper, NorskeCanada and Pacifica Papers Inc.

Mr. Crema has built successful working relationships with a number of ports including the Port of San Francisco, Fraser Surrey Docks and Port Alberni Port Authority. These involved a range of distribution activities such as warehousing and storage, truck, rail, barge and deep sea shipping and supply, as well as finishing and foreshore activities. For many years he was also co-owner and director of Port Alberni’s first winery, Chase and Warren Estates Wines. Mr. Crema studied at North Island College in Port Alberni and attended the University of Victoria.

The Port Alberni Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established to manage the port of Port Alberni under the Canada Marine Act. Eighteen CPAs now make up Canada’s national port system. The CPAs are non-share capital corporations incorporated under the Canada Marine Act and are of strategic significance to Canada’s trade. Their effective operation contributes to Canada’s global competitiveness as a trading nation.
