MONTEREY, Calif. (Oct. 5, 2011) – As the new chairman of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, Paul Yarossi, president of HNTB Holdings Ltd, will play a central role as the industry continues to press for clear direction and a new vision regarding the future of federal transportation funding.

“Working together in a spirit of innovation, transportation professionals are helping states address their increasing role in national infrastructure investment and development,” said Yarossi. “At the same time, understanding how the industry will be reshaped as a result of reduced federal funding levels – and an evolving political process – is the key to our industry successfully navigating the future.”

Officially elected this week during the ARTBA national convention in Monterey, Calif., Yarossi will serve as the association’s chairman of the board of directors for the 2011-2012 term.
“Our members benefit greatly from Paul’s commitment to the transportation industry and his efforts to promote ARTBA’s vision for the future,” said Pete Ruane, president and CEO of ARTBA. “That includes a call for new user fees that will protect and upgrade the nation’s past infrastructure investments, as well as adding critical multimodal capacity, facilitating the safe and efficient movement of people and goods.”

In this role, Yarossi said he will aggressively promote the passage of a new, multi-year federal highway and transit investment bill to replace the one that expired more than two years ago.
“ARTBA has put forward a bold plan to reform, refocus, restructure and refinance the nation’s federal surface transportation program. Our country receives an incredible return on infrastructure investments: creating construction jobs, making communities more attractive to businesses and improving the overall quality of life. It’s an exciting time to advocate for a smart, strategic multimodal transportation system,” he said.

Having previously presented testimony to the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, Yarossi is a long-time advocate of multimodal transportation investments as well as the use of alternative transportation finance and delivery techniques. He regularly contributes to the National Journal’s transportation experts blog and has spoken at a variety of U.S. Chamber of Commerce and industry-specific events.

Yarossi has been a leader in ARTBA for nearly a decade, serving as senior vice chairman, first vice chairman, vice chairman at-large, chairman of the Transportation Design & Construction Innovation Advisory Committee, and co-chairman of the ARTBA SAFETEA-LU Reauthorization Task Force.

Yarossi also serves on HNTB’s board of directors and is responsible for overseeing and directing the firm’s governance, capitalization strategy, compliance and audit functions, as well as its external and government relations. Since joining HNTB in 1973, Yarossi has been involved with nearly every aspect of the firm.

Founded in 1902, ARTBA is the oldest and most respected national transportation construction-related association. The federation’s primary goal is to aggressively grow and protect transportation infrastructure investment to meet public and business demands for safe and efficient travel. There are more than 5,000 members from the public and private sectors. Learn more at www.artba.org.
