White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. – The American Trucking Associations honored Mike Wickham, the former president and CEO of Roadway Corp. and the founding chairman of the American Transportation Research Institute with the S. Earl Dove Highways Award yesterday.

The Dove Award, named for former ATA chairman and former owner of AAA Cooper Transportation S. Earl Dove, is the association’s highest honor, recognizing individuals whose contributions of time, energy and intelligence have advanced the interests of the trucking industry and the American Trucking Associations.

Past recipients of the award include Robert Halladay, Michael Jackson, Rep. Bud Schuster and Thomas Donohue.

“Given his vision for and energy in creating and leading an independent research organization, there is no one more deserving to be added to these august ranks than Michael W. Wickham,” Steve Williams, chairman and CEO of Maverick USA Inc., and the current chairman of ATRI, said in presenting the Dove Award to Wickham during ATA’s celebration of ATRI’s 10th anniversary at the association’s annual Leadership Meeting.

ATA President and CEO Bill Graves said Wickham’s “vision for a strong, credible independent research organization focused on the industry’s safety and productivity,” was a driving force in the reorganization of the ATA Foundation into the research powerhouse that is ATRI.

“There is no better way to celebrate our ten years of research excellence than to recognize the man who originally set us on this course,” said Rebecca Brewster, ATRI president and chief operating officer.

ATRI is the trucking industry’s 501(c)(3) not-for-profit research organization. It is engaged in critical research relating to freight transportation’s essential role in maintaining a safe, secure and efficient transportation system.
