BDP International Thailand Awarded AEO Certification
PHILADELPHIA, BANGKOK, January 7, 2014 — BDP International (BDP) today announced its Thailand offices have been awarded Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) certification by the Thailand Customs Department. AEO is a supply chain security program developed by the member states of the European Union. In Thailand, the AEO certification is issued by Thailand Customs which follows the strict controls established by the World Customs Organization.
AEO is considered to be the European equivalent of the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) developed by customs authorities in the United States. Only a select number of companies in Thailand have been invited to apply for the certification.
BDP Thailand's customers will benefit from streamlined customs procedures and a fast-tracking of processes. The AEO benefits include faster qualification for simplified customs procedures; notification when cargo has been selected for visitation; and a minimal data set for summary declarations at entry and departure.
In addition, less data is required for brief customs visitations; physical and administrative visitations are fewer; planned visitations are given high priority; and shippers have a free choice of where goods must be presented for customs visitation. AEO certification also provides exemption from or reduction of customs bails, bank guaranties and other security controls.
Stefan Krebs, BDP's Thailand country manager said the accreditation comes after an extensive audit of BDP's security measures by the Thai customs authorities.
“BDP received the AEO certification after an extensive year-long audit process,” he explained. “It lets our customers and border authorities know that BDP is a reliable and trusted partner for all their logistics needs in and out of Europe. It also puts BDP Thailand in an elite group of companies that can meet the highest standards of supply chain security.”
