Behr America Service Parts and Kontane Logistics Extend Partnership with New Aftermarket Parts Flow Center
CHARLESTON, S.C. — April 5, 2011 — Kontane Logistics, an industry leader in Third Party Logistics, has extended their partnership with Behr America Service Parts (BASP), one of the world’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of original equipment for passenger and commercial vehicles. For this joint venture, Kontane Logistics has expanded to an off-site flow center adjacent to BASP’s production plant at 4500 Leeds Avenue in Charleston. The expansion occurred after BASP named Kontane Logistics as their supply chain partner to conduct all packaging operations for Aftermarket components manufactured within Behr’s facility, which include charge air coolers, condensers and other engine cooling systems parts.
As part of the production, the BASP components are identified, labeled and specifically packaged, and the end product is relayed to Kontane Logistics’ headquarters, located at 1000 Charleston Regional Parkway in Charleston. From there, the parts are received as finished goods, housed in inventory and distributed throughout the continental U.S., Mexico and Canada. This process entails a three-shift operation on a six day work week, producing roughly 500 packaged components per day and 3,000 per week. 2011 forecasts for both BASP and Kontane Logistics are growth-related, with production volumes on a steady incline.
