RICHFIELD, MINNESOTA, 15 OCTOBER 2010: International consumer electronics retailer Best Buy has named APL its Ocean Carrier of the year for 2010. A leading global container carrier, Singapore-based APL was honored at a Best Buy logistics conference here recently.

Best Buy said the shipping line topped all other ocean carriers in schedule reliability and space availability. It added that APL posted a perfect score for the past year in equipment availability.

“This is a great achievement for APL in that it is only their third year of working with Best Buy,” the retailer said. “APL has provided excellent customer service at both their local office in the U.S. and their origin offices in Asia.”

APL began transporting Best Buy cargo in 2008 from the Chinese ports of Shanghai, Xiamen, Fuzhou and Yantian. Most of it is discharged at the carrier’s terminal at the Port of Los Angeles. Some is transported to the U.S. East Coast via the Panama Canal.

“We’ve worked hard to justify Best Buy’s faith in us,” said Bob Sappio, Senior Vice President of Pan American Trades at APL. “We’re especially pleased that they have recognized our schedule reliability because on-time delivery is our highest priority.”

A $45 billion retailing giant, Minnesota-based Best Buy markets technology and entertainment products in the U.S., Canada, Europe, China and Mexico.
