Business Leaders Discuss Savannah Harbor’s Importance for Metro Atlanta

Atlanta, Ga. – November 12, 2010 – The Georgia Ports Authority, in partnership with the Georgia World Congress Center, the Supply Chain Council of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Regional Business Coalition, the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, and Georgia Forward will host an informative panel discussion regarding the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project (SHEP) on Thursday, December 2, 2010, in the Sydney Marcus Auditorium of the Georgia World Congress Center. The Atlanta/Savannah Harbor Business Forum includes a coffee reception that begins at 7:30 a.m. and a one-hour program starting at 8 a.m.

“We are delighted to share the critical importance the Port of Savannah and its harbor have on Georgia’s economy,” GPA’s Executive Director Curtis J. Foltz. “More than $8 billion in cargo that transits Savannah’s docks is directly related to the Metro Atlanta area.”

Featured speakers include Atlanta’s Mayor Kasim Reed, The Home Depot’s CEO Frank Blake, Georgia Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Chris Clark, AJC International Vice Chairman Eric Joiner, Director of Economic Forecasting for the Terry College of Business Jeff Humphries and Foltz. The panel will be moderated by WAGA Business Correspondent and CEO of What’s Up Interactive Richard Warner. Also speaking will be GPA’s Chairman of the Board Alec Poitevint, Atlanta Regional Commission Chairman Tad Leithead, Director of the Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development Catherine L. Ross. Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce President Sam Williams will bring concluding remarks.
