CenterPoint Properties Winner of IANA Intermodal Achievement Award

CALVERTON, Md., Sept. 13, 2011 – The Intermodal Association of North America has announced that CenterPoint Properties is the winner of the 2011 IANA Intermodal Achievement Award. This prestigious award is presented to either a public or private sector organization that has made the greatest contribution to the advancement of the intermodal freight transportation industry during the previous year.

This year’s award presentation ceremony will be held during the 2011 IANA Intermodal Expo’s Opening General Session at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Ga. on Mon., Nov. 14.

The IANA Awards Committee recognized CenterPoint Properties specifically for its development of the CenterPoint Intermodal Center located in Joliet/Elwood, Ill. The Center is a 6,000 acre master-planned inland port anchored by the BNSF Logistics Park–Chicago and the Union Pacific Joliet Intermodal Terminal. The Center has grown to become the largest inland port in the U.S., handling between 4-6 million TEUs yearly.

The CenterPoint Intermodal Center improves supply chain efficiencies by connecting agricultural producers, manufacturers, and distributors with multiple Class I railroads, and helps to minimize vehicle-borne pollution and local congestion.

The Committee also recognized CenterPoint Properties for being a leader in the development of industrial real estate in metropolitan Chicago that thoroughly understands and appreciates the intermodal transportation model. Through the innovation of the inland Intermodal Center, the company is improving the supply chain, while leaving a significant and permanent impact on the local and national economy and environment.

IANA Chairman Steve Rubin observed that, “The CenterPoint Intermodal Center has had an innovative impact on the continued efficiency of America’s supply chain. It demonstrates the company’s commitment to address future capacity needs due to increases in import volumes and agricultural exports, while contributing to highway congestion mitigation.”
