CEVA launches GKN operation
The new contract consolidates GKN’s business activities in the south region of Brazil Sao Paulo, Brazil, 16 December, 2009 – CEVA Logistics, a leading global supply chain management company, has signed a two-year contract with GKN Driveline, a British engineering company dedicated to the automobile and aerospace industries with activities in the southern region of Brazil.
Under the contract, CEVA will collect homokinetic half-axles, equipment that links the car's engine to its transmission, from the GKN plant in Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul state), transport these parts to the FIAT plant in Betim (Minas Gerais state), and return the packages to the company’s headquarters in the south. CEVA will also provide storage solutions for the products at its site in São José dos Pinhais in Parana state.
In order to give the customer increased visibility of its supply chain, the logistics operator will use “CEVA Trip,” a monitoring system developed by CEVA that is capable of tracking cargo from the moment it leaves the shipper all the way to its final destination.
“GKN sought to streamline its supply chain process, and that is why it chose to CEVA. GKN visited our operations facilities in the region and was very impressed by the complexity of CEVA’s work,” said Philippe Masse de Souza, New Business Development Manager. “CEVA’s ability to provide customized supply chain solutions was the primary factor in winning the contract.”
With this partnership, CEVA expands its activities in the automotive sector and strengthens its cross-docking service in the region. The south region of Brazil has a strong presence of large companies from the automobile sector.
