CMA CGM Group Executive Officer Farid Salem to Give Keynote at JOC Port Performance Conference Europe in London, Nov. 19

NEWARK, N.J., Oct. 20, 2014 — Farid T. Salem, who is the current CMA CGM Group Executive Officer and Board of Directors Member, will deliver the keynote address at Port Performance Conference Europe, organized by JOC Group Inc. The two-day London event, on Nov. 19-20, will explore the growing productivity challenges facing container lines, terminals and ports in an era of mega ships and growing volumes. The conference is an outgrowth of the JOC Port Productivity database, the first global measurement of productivity performance.

Farid T. Salem began his career in 1964, as the Director and Partner of Lebanese company Packfreez, and through 1974, he headed the import and distribution activity of food products in Lebanon; and industrial fishing operations in Madagascar; In 1974, he founded Polyfreez, a company specialized on import and distribution of seafood products in Lebanon and Kuwait. In 1978, he helped create and launch CMA (Compagnie Maritime d’Affretement) with Jacques Saade in Marseille, France, and, over the next few decades, contributed to the success of what would become the world’s third-largest carrier — CMA CGM.

“One of the biggest issues that the JOC editorial team has been covering this year is delays at ports,” said Peter Tirschwell, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer, JOC Group Inc. “It’s become apparent this year that ports in North Europe, North America, and even in Asia, are struggling to keep up, leading to delays that will only get worse if not addressed in honest and open dialogue by industry leaders like Mr. Salem. We are honored that he will join us at JOC Port Performance Conference Europe, to help bring clarity and perspective to this rapidly evolving challenge confronting terminals, carriers, and customers and logistics providers.”

Program speakers will include executives from Maersk Line, United Arab Shipping Co., DP World, Drewry Shipping Consultants, Peel Ports Group, HSH Nordbank, and Clarkson Research Services, among others. For current agenda details, visit:
