CNG Fleet Supports Corporate Sustainability for 3PL’s Customers

Lakeland, Fla., Sept. 27, 2012 – Saddle Creek Logistics Services’ new compressed natural gas (CNG) fleet reached its 2-million-mile mark this month, and demand for these alternative fuel vehicles is still growing. Well-known companies such as Office Depot and Covidien are tapping this eco-friendly fleet in support of their corporate sustainability programs.

Saddle Creek currently operates 40 Freightliner trucks which run on CNG, one of the cleanest-burning alternative fuel options available with near-zero emissions. To provide additional capacity, the 3PL will add 62 more trucks to the fleet yet this year.

Office Depot uses Saddle Creek’s trucks for daily DC transfers between Orlando, Miami and Tampa. The CNG trucks will help the office supply company reduce its carbon output by more than 315,000 pounds annually – equivalent to recycling over 4 million 20-ounce plastic bottles.

Covidien, a global healthcare products company, began using the CNG fleet in July to transport medical supplies from its Orlando-area manufacturing plant to an Atlanta DC and on to hospitals and distributors. Already, the company is on the way to reducing its carbon footprint by 86,000 pounds per year.

“We’re excited to work with leading companies like Office Depot and Covidien that are committed to reducing their environmental footprint,” said Mike DelBovo, president, Saddle Creek Transportation. “Together, we can make a significant impact on carbon reduction. With the addition of 62 more trucks, Saddle Creek will reduce its carbon footprint by 11,400,000 pounds annually. That’s equivalent to recycling 150 million plastic bottles – enough to almost circle the globe!”
