SEATTLE, WA – WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 2, 2012) Christopher A. Coakley joined Saltchuk Resource’s senior management team as Vice President, Government Affairs.
Coakley, who is based in Washington, D.C., will represent Saltchuk’s interests at the federal level and will coordinate the company’s public policy efforts nationwide. He will also be Saltchuk’s representative on the Executive Committee of the American Maritime Partnership.
Saltchuk, headquartered in Seattle, Washington, is a privately-owned family of more than 20 diversified companies principally engaged in the transportation, fuel distribution, and real estate industries. On a consolidated basis, Saltchuk has $1.6 billion of assets, $2.2 billion of annual revenues, and 7,500 employees.
Coakley joins Saltchuk from his most recent position as Vice President of Legislative Affairs for the American Waterways Operators, an industry association representing the U.S. tugboat, towboat, and barge industry. He has a master’s degree in transportation policy, operations, and logistics from the George Mason University School of Public Policy. A graduate of Colby College, he also studied at the London School of Economic and was an intern in the British parliament. “I’m thrilled to join the Saltchuk team,” Coakley said. “Its operating companies are among the best in vibrant industries, and it will be an honor to play even a small role in their future success.”
“Coakley’s appointment completes an extensive search,” said Tim Engle, Saltchuk president. “Everyone who met Chris – both at headquarters and in our operating companies – came away convinced that his track record, industry knowledge, and high integrity made him the right person to assume these responsibilities.”
Coakley and his wife, Elizabeth Martin, make their home in Washington, D.C., with their son, Beck.
