DBMA Names Don Ralph, SVP, Staples Inc. Recipient of 2009 Distinguished Service Award

The Distribution Business Management Association (DBMA) announces that Don Ralph, SVP of Supply Chain & Logistics, Staples, Inc. has received the Distinguished Service Award for his commitment and proven leadership to the Supply Chain Leaders in Action (SCLA).

Don Ralph served as the 2009 SCLA Chairman and dedicated both time and effort into developing this year’s program. Regarding the program Ralph said, “SCLA's collaboration between the pre-eminent Fortune 1,000 global supply chain organizations and thought leaders in academia, provides an ideal setting to continue the development of advanced supply chain concepts and practices in a non-competitive, educational environment.”

“Leading a business organization of this size and scope is challenging”, according to Amy Thorn, Executive Director of the Distribution Business Management Association. “Mr. Ralph not only met the challenge but he set the strategy for success for the fifty SCLA member companies that generate approximately 1.5 trillion dollars annually for the U.S. economy. In difficult times like these we need leaders like Don Ralph who not only motivate and inspire others to go in the right direction but are also willing to personally sacrifice to get there.”

The 2009 SCLA event was held in Jacksonville, FL from May 12-14. The program was headed by Don Ralph who was assisted by the SCLA Executive Committee, comprised of one executive from each member company and representatives from the academic community. Past winners of this award were Kevin Smith SVP, CVS/pharmacy in 2007, & Jim La Bounty SVP, JCPenney’s in 2008.
