eModal Implements Its Chassis Control Solution at Maher Terminals in Elizabeth, N.J.

eModal, the leader in online intermodal logistics solutions, announced the successful implementation of its Chassis Control solution at Maher Terminals in Elizabeth, N.J., as well as two off-dock chassis depots. eModal Chassis Control offers terminal operators and chassis providers, such as TRAC Intermodal, enhanced control and management of chassis access at key operational facilities.

eModal Chassis Control provides an integration layer between chassis providers and terminal operators, ensuring that when the motor carrier is responsible for chassis provision that they are authorized to use the chassis by the chassis provider. If the motor carrier is not authorized, eModal Chassis Control alerts the Terminal Operating System (TOS), thereby preventing unauthorized usage.

³As steamship lines move away from supplying chassis in the U.S., chassis providers, such as TRAC Intermodal, Flexi-Van and DCLI, are taking on the vital and complex role of furnishing intermodal chassis to motor carriers for the haulage of containers,² said Pearce Cobarr, head of product management for eModal. ³We are proud to count one of the largest, multi-user container terminal operators, Maher Terminals, and the world¹s largest provider of intermodal chassis, TRAC Intermodal, among our key customers.

Since the initial go-live in May 2011, speed and accuracy have been pitch-perfect. We've seen an average system response time of less than half a second with fully-sustained gate productivity. Control over our assets at the point of interchange is imperative as more of our business shifts to the motor carrier, said Joseph Lynch, assistant vice president of product development of TRAC Intermodal. ³We¹re thrilled with the eModal Chassis Control solution which provides us with necessary controls at Maher Terminals with several other major intermodal terminals in queue across the country. The benefits in terms of revenue quality, operational control and reduced risk have been phenomenal. And we see this as good for the industry, all-around. The lines are further enabled to focus on their core competencies and terminal operators get the benefit of operational readiness in servicing the evolving needs of their line customers, along with improved data quality at the gate. Furthermore, trucking companies and drivers benefit by avoiding extra fees associated with unauthorized chassis usage, and BCOs avoid unnecessary costs that would otherwise leak into the supply chain. We see this as a win-win situation.
