Encompass Launches Enhanced Transpacific and Australasia Reefer Service

IRVINE, California – September 26, 2012 – Encompass Global Logistics LLC, a fast-growing 3PL that is ranked among the top 20 operators in the Transpacific trade, today announced significant enhancements to its refrigerated services, including a peak season service guarantee to customers exporting to Asia and Australia/New Zealand.

The new reefer services are a response to rapid growth in refrigerated exports to Australasia among Encompass Global Logistics’ customer base, says Ron Folsom, vice president of sales and marketing. “For the produce season that began in June and will go through March/April, many of our exporters are increasing their volumes with Encompass,” he says, noting that Encompass’ exports to Asia and Australia overall are expected to increase by 50 percent and 20 percent, respectively.

To better serve this growing demand, Encompass is offering the industry’s first peak season guarantee. “Because of our vast carrier network and contracts, we are able to guarantee space and provide the necessary schedule flexibility to enable all of our shippers to quickly get their produce to market,” Folsom says.

Encompass’ dedicated Refrigerated Services is a total logistics solution, spearheaded by a specialized reefer-cargo customer service team. In addition to coordinating all transportation, documentation and customs clearances, this team also manages late gates and works closely with suppliers and packing houses, and with transload and fumigation facilities, to ensure that delivery windows are met.

As with all Encompass services, customers have 24/7 access to a Web portal that provides gate-in and on-board information as well as destination arrival times. Through the portal, customers have access to customized reporting for terminal gate-in, vessel loading, destination discharge, consignee gate-out and exception notifications.

Encompass also provides the advantage of a one-stop shop, “offering shippers the best of ocean carriage, freight forwarding and trucking services in a single platform,” Folsom says. “Before we launched our reefer service, exporters had to go and find multiple solutions from a variety of service providers to get their produce overseas. Our service simplifies the exporting process and saves the exporters/growers time and money.” Many logistics companies do not offer reefer services because of the delicate nature of the cargo, Folsom adds, “but it is one of our major strengths.”

Encompass’ new reefer services are available at all major U.S. West Coast ports and at the following ports in Southeast Asia: Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Hong Kong, Yantian, Singapore, Tokyo, Nagoya, Xiamen, Yantian, Nansha, Kaohsiung, Yokohama, Kobe, Qingdao, Kwangyang, Hakata, Nogoya, Keelung, Kaohsiung, and Da Chan Bay. In Australia and New Zealand, the service covers the ports of Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney, Suva, Tauranga, Brisbane, Port Chalmers, and Napier.

Some of the top reefer commodities moving between the regions include beef, pork, chicken, apples, cantaloupes, cherries, grapefruits, grapes, lemons, honeydew melon, peaches, pears, plums, pomegranates, watermelon, asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, garlic, lettuce, potatoes, and spinach.
