FMCSA Announces New Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee Members
WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) today announced the appointment of five new members to its Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee (MCSAC).
The Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee is a vital resource for bringing a full and broad range of safety ideas to the table,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. “These individuals are committed to the challenge of reducing, and ultimately eliminating, fatal crashes involving large trucks and buses. I thank them for their service to our county.”
The MCSAC was established by Congress in 2006 to provide advice and recommendations to the FMCSA Administrator on motor carrier safety programs and regulations. Composed of 19 members overall, the MCSAC includes representatives from national safety organizations, the truck and bus industry, state law enforcement, organized labor, and the commercial insurance sector.
“The committee members are leading authorities in their occupational specialties and they provide an incredible resource to the Department,” said FMCSA Administrator Anne S. Ferro. “They also symbolize the critical necessity of everyone coming together to move our safety-first mission forward. Their work is helping to save lives every day.”
The five new MCSAC members are:
Robert Abbott, Vice President for Safety Policy, American Trucking Associations, Arlington, Va.
Paul Claunch, Major, Arkansas Highway Police, Little Rock, Ark.
Henry Jasny, Vice President and Senior Counsel, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, Washington, D.C.
Janice Mulanix, Assistant Chief, California Highway Patrol, Sacramento, Calif.
Calvin Studivant, motorcoach driver, Community Coach, Inc., Paramus, N.J.
