German President To Address Global Mobility Summit

The German head of state, Federal President Horst Köhler, is the latest addition to the list of prominent speakers and panelists who will be attending the third International Transport Forum, to be held from May 26-28 in Leipzig, Germany.

Around 900 policy makers, industry leaders, top level researchers and representatives of civil society will meet in Leipzig to debate strategic issues in global mobility, transport and logistics.

This year’s event, headlined as “Transport and Innovation – Unleashing the Potential” will focus on the role of innovation in shaping transport systems of the future. Among those present in Leipzig will be Ministers from the 52 member countries of the International Transport Forum, who will gather for their traditional ministerial session on 27 May.

“We are delighted that president Kohler will be joining us at the Forum”, said Jack Short, Secretary-General of the international Transport Forum. “His participation highlights the crucial importance of innovation in the transport sector for our common future in a globalised world. Progress in the transport sector is crucial for a whole range of areas: achieving environmental goals, supporting economic growth, managing congestion, providing accessibility – and last but not least, ensuring safety and security in getting people and goods from A to B on our planet.”
