G.I. Jobs Names Schneider National Military-Friendly Employer For Fourth Consecutive Year
GREEN BAY, Wis. – (Nov. 11, 2009) – For the fourth consecutive year Schneider National, Inc., a premier provider of transportation, logistics and intermodal services, earned a spot on
G.I. Jobs’ annual list of Top Military-Friendly Employers. Schneider landed at 18, earning recognition on the Top 100 list for the programs and benefits it offers to reservists and veterans.
“Former military excel at Schneider National. The drive, tenacity and desire to succeed that delivers success in the military are the same traits that keep Schneider at the top of our industry,” explained Mike Hinz, vice president of Driver Recruitment and LTC, retired, U.S. Army Reserve. “We remain committed to hiring those who possess values similar to ours and have served—or are continuing to serve—our country.”
In its seventh year, G.I. Jobs’ list recognizes U.S. companies that make strong efforts and have the greatest success in hiring military veterans. “G.I. Jobs created the Top Military-Friendly Employers list to help military veterans gauge which companies are committed to hiring individuals who possess the values and skills instilled in them during their time of service,” said Dan Fazio, managing editor of G.I. Jobs. “The list showcases companies like Schneider that have a track record of recruiting, hiring and retaining America’s military veterans.”
Schneider’s military program includes:
-- Extended benefits and differential pay for soldiers deployed 18 months
-- Guaranteed home time for weekend drill and annual training; no vacation time required for drivers
-- Quick-hire process, allowing active military to apply, interview and be accepted two months prior to separation
-- Nationwide opportunities throughout Schneider’s network of offices, maintenance facilities and operating centers
In addition, Schneider participates in five programs to help members of the military obtain employment.
-- ROTC Pays Program: Schneider partnered with the Army training command, allowing college students to sign up for an employer of their choice prior to graduating.
-- In conjunction with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, the Schneider National Veterans Owner-Operator program provides ex-military with the training, mentoring, financial incentives and purchasing power to become an owner-operator.
-- Apprenticeship Program: Associates are eligible to use GI Bill benefits for one year to receive tax-free educational benefit checks from the Department of Veteran Affairs by submitting monthly reports to the Department of Labor.
-- Army Reserve Employer Partnership: Schneider National and the Army Reserve work together to recruit, train and employ individuals interested in both serving the nation and pursuing a career in the transportation and logistics industry.
-- Vetrepreneur Program: Under this program, Schneider offers veterans the opportunity to have their training subsidized, using their GI Bill benefits to cover the cost of obtaining their commercial driver’s license at Schneider’s Driver Training Academy.
Over the years the G.I. Jobs list has grown from the Top 25 to the Top 100 Military-Friendly Employers; this year’s list was open to companies with annual revenue of at least $500 million, down from previous years’ $1 billion annual revenue requirement, to enable recognition of excellent programs that employ thousands of veterans.
