Governor Robert Bentley Names Maritime Executives to Port Authority Board of Directors – Angus Cooper III Named Chairman

August 1, 2013, Mobile, AL – The Alabama State Port Authority announced today two new representatives have been appointed to its Board of Directors. Governor Robert Bentley named Angus R. Cooper III of Mobile, Ala., to the Port Authority Board’s At-Large seat and Chairman of the Board. In a concurrent gubernatorial action, the Governor also appointed Tim Parker, III, of Tuscaloosa, to the Board’s Central Region. Both appointments are five year terms and are effective August 1, 2013.

Governor Bentley, in separate letters to Cooper and Parker dated July 24, 2013, expressed appreciation for their service noting members held ‘great responsibility’ as the body made important decisions affecting the citizens of Alabama. Established by legislative act in 2000, the nine member board holds fiscal and policy oversight for the public seaport.

Angus Cooper, III is Group President and a member of the Board of Directors for Cooper/T. Smith, an Alabama corporation. Mr. Cooper background includes management experience in both the maritime and banking industries. In addition to his board seat with Cooper/T. Smith, Mr. Cooper serves on the Region’s Bank South Alabama Area Advisory Board, the University of Alabama Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration’s International Business Advisory Board, and the boards of directors for theNational Association of Waterfront Employers (NAWE), the Alabama Forever Wild Land Trust and is Vice Chair of Alabama Wildlife Federation and the UMS-Wright Preparatory School Boards of Directors.

Tim Parker, III, is President of Cargo Handlers Inc., and serves on the Board of Directors for Parker Towing Inc. Mr. Parker has served in sales and marketing positions for both the maritime transportation and trucking industries. Mr. Parker currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Warrior – Tombigbee Waterway Association, the Alabama Coal Association, the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama and serves on the Advisory Board for BB&T Bank in Tuscaloosa.

The Alabama State Port Authority owns and operates the State of Alabama’s public, deep-water port facilities at the Port of Mobile and handled over 25 million tons of cargo in fiscal year 2012. The Authority’s container, general cargo and bulk facilities have immediate access to two interstate systems, five Class 1 railroads, and nearly 15,000 miles of inland waterway connections.
