Houston Declares May 10th WISTA Day WISTA USA to meet in the Energy Capital of the United States

May 7, 2012 --- WISTA USA President Jeanne Grasso announced today that the Honorable Annise D. Parker, Mayor of the City of Houston, has declared May 10th “Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association Day” in recognition of WISTA USA’s Annual General Meeting being held in Houston, the Energy Capital of the United States, from May 9-11th. The meeting will be held in venues around Houston, capitalizing on the many corporations engaged in the industry, with the bulk of the activities centered around BG Group Place at 811 Main St.

The proclamation highlights the many strengths of WISTA as a “professional and highly reputable shipping organization with focus on improving levels of competency in the shipping industry; and WISTA USA’s membership includes more than 290 maritime professionals from 23 states and the District of Columbia, representing all facets of the maritime industry…”. The proclamation will be read to the delegate body on May 10th.

The Annual General Meeting will focus on the goals of the organization, including its participation as part of an international association. Emphasis will be placed on raising WISTA’s profile within the shipping and trading communities to attract new members, as well as enhance the benefits of membership to those already engaged.

The meeting will be open to the public beginning with the luncheon, when Joan Eischen from KPMG Houston, the author of “Energy and the City,” will be the keynote. This will be followed by afternoon panel discussions on the Energy Outlook, Saving Energy, and Harnessing Energy. Featured speakers include Olga Rodriguez from the Port of Houston, Elisabeth Torstad of Det Norske Veritas, Marty Massey from the Marine Well Containment Company, and Renee Klimczak, BG Group President of Global Shipping.
