Hyundai Merchant Marine has been named 2009 Carrier of the Year by Toys“R”Us, Inc.

The honor recognizes the importer’s top ocean carrier based on an objective slate of metrics and reporting for the 2008-2009 contract year.

Hyundai Merchant Marine was named as the first recipient of the Carrier of the Year award by Toys“R”Us, Inc. A plaque was presented to Stephen Barnett, Vice President, Transpacific EB Trade of HMM by Joseph Gallinoto, Vice Present, Worldwide Transportation, Toys“R”Us, Inc. at the importer’s corporate headquarters in Wayne, New Jersey on August 13. The honor recognizes the importer’s top ocean carrier based on an objective slate of metrics and reporting for the 2008-2009 contract year.

Carrier selection was based on the tabulated results of a monthly scorecard, which included metrics for vessel schedule integrity, ETA compliance, rating accuracy, reliable transmission of defined EDI events and overall value.

Criteria used in assessing Value included customer service response time, problem resolution and the carrier’s proactive and strategic approach to challenges.

Mr. Barnett commented that recognition of Hyundai’s value as service provider is especially significant. “Importers today expect their carriers to do a solid job in the nuts and bolts of delivering cargo. We (at HMM) are extremely proud to also be acknowledged by Toys“R”Us, Inc. for the key role that an engaged team of professionals play in delivering value to the client.” He went on to say that people are the primary differentiator for HMM.
