ITI Celebrates the Graduation of the Class of 2011

DENVER, CO, June 7, 2011 – The Intermodal Transportation Institute (ITI) at the University of Denver recently graduated its eighth cohort of transportation management professionals from its prestigious Master of Science in Intermodal Transportation Management degree program. Graduating students and their families attended the recent graduation reception and hooding ceremony, where they heard comments from the program’s Dean James R. Davis, graduating students, and key industry guests and ITI Board Member Eugene D. Seroka.

The students thanked the faculty for their assistance throughout their coursework and their families for their support throughout their graduate studies. They commented on the impact that the coursework had on broadening their understanding of the transportation industry. They also emphasized the value of new friendships with individuals from different transportation sectors and/or modes that were solidified during their six quarters of study and travel.

Mr. Seroka, President of the Americas of APL, Ltd., and ITI Board Member, also addressed the students. APL has been a strong supporter of the ITI Executive Masters Program since its inception, regularly sending students and hosting activities for ITI students and faculty during travel seminars. A highlight for students travelling to Hong Kong is always the trip around Victoria Harbour on the APL junk, followed by dinner on famous Lamma Island, and port and facility visits organized by APL.

Mr. Seroka, who is the fourth representative of APL to sit on the ITI Board of Directors, remarked on the benefits APL reaps from employees who have been through the program. He also commented on the adjustments that family members have to make when partners or parents undertake a graduate program and recognized that earning a degree is often a “team” effort.

To date, more than 135 transportation management professionals have graduated from the ITI program. Cohort 9 is currently continuing its coursework and Cohort 10 will begin this fall.
