JOC Group’s Joseph Bonney Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award from Containerization & Intermodal Institute
NEWARK, N.J. – The Containerization and Intermodal Institute (CII) has presented its lifetime achievement award to Joseph Bonney, senior editor for JOC Group Inc., now part of IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), a leading global source of critical information and insight.
Bonney was honored December 9 at the organization’s annual East Coast Connie Awards luncheon, which recognizes “individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the evolution of containerized shipping and intermodal transportation.”
Bonney was recognized for 30 years of journalism excellence covering the maritime industry for The Journal of Commerce and other media. At JOC Group, he served in various editorial positions, including managing editor, editor-in-chief, columnist and Gulf Coast correspondent. During his career, he has been managing editor of American Shipper magazine, a newsman with the Associated Press, and a reporter and business editor at The Clarion-Ledger newspaper in Jackson, Mississippi. In addition, he briefly coordinated communications for Lykes Bros. Steamship Co.
Bonney co-authored “The Box That Changed the World,” a history of containerized shipping that was published in 2006 by The Journal of Commerce and CII to mark the 50th anniversary of containerization.
“Joe Bonney’s passion for the international transportation industry can be seen in his macro view of any topic or assignment he undertakes,” said Michael DiVirgilio, president of CII. “He works with integrity and has earned the respect of the industry he covers.”
“We at JOC Group are very proud of Joe for receiving this recognition," said Peter Tirschwell, executive vice president and chief content officer for JOC Group. “Joe has always brought balance, detail, expertise and accuracy to his coverage and public speaking roles. In covering everything from longshore negotiations to port congestion, Joe has gained the trust of industry players and has helped illuminate complex coverage for a wide variety of industry participants in need of quality information.”
