Korean Air Offers Aid to New Zealand Quake Zone
Korean Air will provide 18 tons (12000 bottles of 1.5 litre) of mineral water starting from March 3 to the people affected by the Christchurch earthquake.
The mineral water will be delivered over two days through Korean Air’s regular scheduled flight to Auckland and will be transferred to Christchurch through all necessary transportation. The extra transportation fees will all be covered by Korean Air. The bottled water will then be handed over to New Zealand Civil Defence for distribution to people struck by the quake.
The devastating earthquakes in Christchurch on February 22 have so far claimed and injured the lives of more than 200 people and have scarred the lives of thousands more. With most of the water supply facilities destroyed, the survivors are in desperate need for clean drinking water.
As a leading global carrier, Korean Air has a strong commitment to help with relief efforts in times of disasters. In the aftermath of the Sichuan earthquake a special cargo flight was enlisted to transport 2,000 blankets and 36,000 bottles of 1.5 litre water to the quake zone. And after the Qinghai earthquake, Korean Air also donated RMB500,000 in aid of the relief efforts.
