Leading Experts to Participate in 2012 Latin American Logistics Conference Hosted by Port San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — A keynote address by the CEO of the Panama Canal Authority and a special presentation by a renowned global logistics expert will be among the top agenda items at next year’s annual conference by ALACAT—the Federation of National Associations of International Freight Forwarders and Logistics Operators of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Port San Antonio will host the event from May 13 to 16, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas. The conference will bring together key players engaged in international commerce in the western hemisphere.

Organizers have confirmed the participation of Alberto Alemán Zubieta, CEO of the Panama Canal Authority, as a keynote speaker for the event. The Canal is the leading interoceanic waterway for world maritime commerce and is currently undergoing a $5.25 billion expansion that includes a new set of locks that will double its capacity and allow the transit of longer and wider ships to support world trade.

Peter Mento is also a confirmed speaker at ALACAT 2012. Currently the Director of Global Customs and Trade Policy for C.H. Robinson Worldwide, he is a leading international expert in global trade policy and supply chain security.

Alemán and Mento are part of an agenda addressing new trends in international logistics with a focus on industry best practices. The speakers’ expertise and insights will be of particular importance as event participants review forecasts to plan ahead as world trade continues to recover from the economic slowdown of recent years.

Participation in the 2012 ALACAT conference is open to members and non-member attendees and exhibitors. For more information about the event, visit www.alacat2012.com or contact Port San Antonio at (210) 362-7814.
