Logistics Leaders Forum Prepares Automotive Logistics Sector for the Return of Vehicle Production Volumes

Challenges for supply chain sustainability, from the start of the product cycle until finished vehicle delivery, are slated for discussion.

Southfield, Mich., March 30, 2010 — AIAG and autoMOTIVE Logistics Leaders Magazine will host a panel driven forum to discuss the new challenges in the aftermath of the financial crisis and what it will take to manage the recovery for the automotive logistics sector.

Even with the variety of challenges currently facing the industry, OEMs and their supply chain are placing logistics at the top of their priority lists. The global supply chain is demanding more accurate forecasting; longer-lead visibility and more stable requirements to ensure capacity and logistics are aligned with vehicle production schedules.

On a going forward basis, the ability to deliver the right product mix, to the right place, at the right time, will have a significant impact on both bottom-line performance and customer satisfaction,” points out J. Scot Sharland, executive director, AIAG.

At the Automotive Logistics Leaders Forum, OEM senior logistics directors and logistics service provider senior management will take center stage in interactive panel sessions for a frank discussion on the short-to-mid term future forecast. Featured topics on the agenda include global production forecasts, how the downturn has affected high and heavy logistics operators, how IT solutions can be applied to optimize visibility, the new role of Class One railroads, the challenges and issues facing OEMs and transportation companies, reducing port congestion and more.

“AIAG helps the industry address emerging threats to its financial recovery and the sustainability of the supply chain,” Sharland explains. “Logistics is one of the many areas in which AIAG members are collaborating to streamline processes and improve efficiencies.”

The Logistics Leaders Forum will take place April 28 – 29, 2010 at the GM Heritage Center in Sterling Heights, Mich. The conference agenda and list of confirmed panelists are available online at http://www.logisticsleaders.org/forum/index.shtml.
