This new Hamburg Süd purchase is the first containership of the « Santa » series. A total of 7 vessels was ordered by the shipowner. The vessels are built in South Korea by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME). A special feature of the containerships: each vessel is equipped with 1,600 reefer plugs.

  • With around sixty ports of call, Le Havre is the natural port for South America

In 2010, around 127,000 TEU were carried on import/export between Le Havre and South America. The products, which are mainly agri-food, are received in the « cold » logistics platform of the Port of Le Havre, which offers numerous advantages for importers

  • proximity of the main distribution centres located in the Paris area (Rungis)
  • 350,000 m3 of private warehouses for fresh and frozen products,
  • wide range of services (transit, storage, re-conditioning, transport, specific logistics services).
  • installations of the Local Division of Veterinary Services (PIF/PEC ; Border Inspection Post/Community Entry Point)) directly in the port zone, thus offering the services indispensable for any import of animal or plant origin coming from non-EC countries, in compliance with the European sanitary requirements.

This supply of services made it possible to significantly develop reefer trades via Le Havre: high growth of the trades was indeed recorded in 2009 (22%), an increase which is maintained in 2011.
