Maritime Lobbyist William V. Brierre, Jr. Joins Williams Mullen’s Government Relations Practice
Washington, DC -- Williams Mullen announces that William V. Brierre, Jr. has joined the firm as a director of government affairs in the firm’s Washington, DC office. Mr. Brierre will expand the firm’s advocacy services for federal transportation and maritime issues.
Formerly the founder and president of BRIERRE – a Government Relations Company, Mr. Brierre had previously served as vice president-government relations for CMA CGM (America) LLC since September 2005. For the prior ten years, Mr. Brierre ran his own government relations practice, representing clients on various maritime-related legislative issues including the authorization of and appropriations for the Maritime Subsidy Program, enactment of the Ocean Shipping Reform Act, ballast water and air emissions regulation, enactment of the Maritime Tonnage Tax, and various appropriations. He also acted as liaison to various government agencies on behalf of clients, principally the Maritime Administration, the Federal Maritime Commission, the Defense Department, the State Department and the Treasury Department. Mr. Brierre began his career in the maritime industry in 1972.

Mr. Brierre has been active in many industry associations, including the National Defense Transportation Association, the Propeller Club of the United States, the Navy League of the United States, the Maritime Institute for Research and Industrial Development, and the National Cargo Bureau.
Mr. Brierre has B.A. from Tulane University and an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina. He served in the U. S. Naval Reserve on active duty from 1968 to 1970 as First Division Officer aboard the USS FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (CVA-42). He is a qualified Officer of the Deck Underway.
