Mr. McKinnon was Chairman and CEO of Norfolk Southern Corporation from 1987 to 1992 and was a strong proponent of intermodal transportation. “The creation of the Arnold B. McKinnon Scholarship at ITI honors the family of one of the chief architects of the modern Norfolk Southern Corporation and underscores the company’s commitment to investing in our people,” said Mike McClellan, Vice-President of Intermodal at Norfolk Southern, who hosted the luncheon at the company’s headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia, and announced the new scholarship for ITI.

Honored at the luncheon were Mrs. Oriana M. McKinnon and Colin and Patt McKinnon. Also in attendance were Don Seale, Chief Marketing Officer, NS; Mark Manion, Chief Operating Officer, NS; Steve Branscum, Chairman, ITI Board of Directors; and George Woodward, President, ITI Board of Directors.

“Our family is so appreciative of the recognition given to Arnold in this way, given by a company he loved, to promote graduate education in the intermodal industry, which he greatly championed,” said Mrs. McKinnon. Mr. Seale added: “Arnold was a strong advocate for the growth of the Norfolk Southern Corporation, including the creation of Triple Crown Services and the acquisition of major segments of Conrail. He was enthusiastic about the future growth opportunities of Norfolk Southern and the importance of investing in our management team.”

Founded in 1997, the Intermodal Transportation Institute, in partnership with the transportation industry, offers an executive masters program for working professionals to help prepare the next generation of senior management for the intermodal transportation industry. The Arnold B. McKinnon-Norfolk Southern Scholarship will be used to support the growth and diversity of participation in the ITI graduate program. ITI is actively recruiting for its 10th graduate class, which will start in the fall of 2011.
