Milbank Adds Leading Latin America Finance Attorney Carlos Albarracín
NEW YORK (September 12, 2012) – Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP announced that Carlos T. Albarracín, an experienced corporate and capital markets attorney with a career-long focus on Latin America, has joined the firm as a partner in the Global Securities Group.
Mr. Albarracín, an Argentine native, was previously a partner in the New York office of Chadbourne & Parke. He advises domestic and international clients on transactional matters across Latin America. He has handled large debt and equity offerings and mergers and acquisitions, as well as bank and project financings and financial restructurings.
With a deal list spanning major assignments in Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Peru and elsewhere, Mr. Albarracín is well recognized in South American financial and business circles. Reflecting his cross-sector success, he has received top Chambers rankings not only in the banking and finance category for Latin America, but also project finance and corporate/M&A work, as well as New York-based Latin America investment. Chambers named him a Regional Expert for Latin America in its 2012 edition.
At Milbank, Mr. Albarracín joins one of the world’s leading Latin America practice groups. The firm is enjoying another strong year in the region, advising on high-profile securities offerings, project financings, acquisitions, IPOs, restructurings and sovereign debt issuances.
“Our Latin America practice has gained tremendous stature in recent years – it’s become a core part of our corporate and project finance platforms and a crown jewel of the firm,” said Milbank Chairman Mel Immergut. “It’s great to attract a lawyer as talented as Carlos Albarracín, whose relationships and breadth of deal experience will be a major asset for our clients globally who are transacting business throughout the Americas. Carlos's market-leading practice in Colombia further strengthens our Latin America practice.”
In addition to continuing his focusing on Colombia, Peru, Chile and Argentina, at Milbank Mr. Albarracín will devote substantial time to supporting the firm’s Mexico practice. Milbank has worked on a number of significant Mexico transactions in 2012, including major financings in energy, petrochemicals and financial services, as well as large restructuring matters. Milbank partner Marcelo Mottesi, head of the Global Securities Practice, commented: “It has been a very strong year for us in Mexico and the pipeline continues to be healthy. Carlos will lead deals throughout the region, in Colombia and Peru particularly, and we look to him to further drive our growth in Mexico.”
“Mexico has come roaring back, while Colombia, Chile and Peru are extremely hot. All across Latin America, the focus on infrastructure and energy is the strongest it has ever been,” noted Milbank partner Andrew Jánszky, who heads the firm’s Latin American practice. “Carlos is a major addition to our leading practice in these countries and sectors. He greatly enhances our Latin American coverage.”
“Milbank has long been one of the top legal advisors for capital markets, project finance and corporate transactions in Latin America, with strong performance in all of the region’s major markets,” said Mr. Albarracín. “This is a great opportunity to help the firm build an even bigger platform in the Americas, for all major types of financial transactions.”
