Houston, Americas, 29 July 2010: AVEVA (LSE:AVV) one of the world's leading providers of engineering design and information management solutions for the plant, power and marine industries, today announced the latest release of AVEVA Plant. AVEVA’s new 12.0.SP6 release contains a number of new features and performance enhancements, in addition to being one of the first professional engineering design and visualisation software products to support the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.

New and existing AVEVA Plant customers can now take advantage of the advanced capabilities of Windows 7, which is being shipped as a standard operating system by all major PC hardware manufacturers. The 12.0.SP6 release is fully compatible with both the 32- and 64-bit Windows 7 platforms which support the latest high-performance workstations and servers. In combination with new hardware systems, Windows 7 supports larger 3D PDMS models and offers greater overall software performance.

“The sophisticated design and visualisation capabilities of AVEVA Plant demand a stable operating system environment and our experience with Windows 7 has been very positive. We are pleased to provide AVEVA Plant support so early in the Windows 7 release cycle,” commented Thierry Vermeersch, Product Strategy Manager at AVEVA. “With older versions of the Windows operating system no longer supported by Microsoft, or scheduled for support termination soon, AVEVA customers can now have the confidence to make a long-term commitment to the Windows 7 platform. We have many customers who need to move from Windows 2000 or XP environments, so the timing of this release couldn’t be better. It also allows our new customers to install the latest technology at the beginning of the Microsoft support cycle.”

“While Windows 7 support is the big headline for the new AVEVA Plant, we shouldn’t overlook the significant performance optimisations and new functional extensions that this release also contains,” explained Peter Brunning, Design Product Manager at AVEVA. “In this release we have addressed more than 100 user requests for functional improvements, enhanced our graphical user interface, and tuned up the performance on a number of operations. To give just a couple of examples, the release includes an update of our Open Steel interface, version 2.1, which now manages complex plates and curved members, and support for the Steel Detailing Neutral File (SDNF) format for greater compatibility with 3rd-party steel detailing applications. A native 64-bit implementation of the new AVEVA Review 12.1 can now handle much larger models with better performance. This new AVEVA Plant is a major new release that offers customers significant benefits across a wide range of functional and operational areas.”

AVEVA Plant (12.0 series SP6) is now shipping to existing and new AVEVA customers running on Microsoft Windows 7 operating systems, as well as those still running on Windows XP.
