New Crane Telemetry Tool Integrated Into Tideworks Technology’s Spinnaker Planning Management System®
SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tideworks Technology®, Inc., a leading provider of full-service terminal management and planning software solutions, today announced the development of its newest automation tool – Crane Telemetry for Spinnaker Planning Management System®. Spinnaker fully integrates vessel, berth, yard and rail planning tools in one workspace enabling terminal operators to increase operating efficiencies and reduce turn times. Spinnaker’s Crane Telemetry tool allows terminal operators to automate the process of identifying the physical stowage position of containers loaded to or discharged from the vessel in real time.

Based on vessel arrival conditions, planned stowage locations and other factors, the Crane Telemetry tool automates calculation of vessel bay, stack and tier, minimizing stowage errors and incompatibilities. The tool enables terminal operators to increase efficiency and productivity of container movement. In addition, the tool detects and provides alerts to vessel planners when containers are not loaded to their planned positions.
The Crane Telemetry tool is scalable to any size operation and allows terminal operators to eliminate latency in reporting container locations to the terminal operating system (TOS) as well as inaccurate location reporting that are sometimes inherent with integrated, third-party locate systems. The crane telemetry functionality in Spinnaker will work in conjunction with any number of automation technologies including crane optical character recognition (OCR), radio frequency identification (RFID) and real time locating systems (RTLS), but is not dependent upon these technologies.
Tideworks’ Automation and Optimization Team created the advanced algorithms that are utilized by Spinnaker’s Crane Telemetry tool. With extensive experience ranging from applied mathematics and quantum chemical computational research, to design of algorithms and mathematical models for real-time applications in a variety of fields, the team is responsible for the design, development and implementation of automation and optimization functionality within Tideworks’ suite of TOS products.
