New Managing Director for Damen Shiprepair Brest (FR)
As of mid July 2012, Mr Jos Goris will actively take up the post of managing director for Damen Shiprepair Brest (DSB). Mr Goris succeeds Mr André Hollander, who managed the yard (formerly known as Sobrena) from the moment Damen Shipyards Group took over its operations three months ago. He will remain at DSB as General Affairs Officer. Damen Shiprepair Brest employs 210 workers and operates 3 large graven dry docks of which the largest measures 420 m x 80 m.
Mr Goris has vast experience in shiprepair & conversion and has been the Managing Director of Damen Shiprepair Götaverken (DSGö) in Sweden, which he has integrated in the Damen Shipyards Group.
According to Mr Goris it’s important to invest strategically in services and people in order to meet customers’ needs as effectively as possible, especially now, in the current economic climate combined with high fuel prices. He says: “I’m looking forward to working for DSB, seeing its expertise being brought into practice first-hand and to deliver satisfactory results for our clients.”
LNG carriers, VLCCs and Offshore vessels will be an important part of DSB’s business. Mr Goris: “We will differentiate ourselves on Safety Culture, Project Management and of course the quality of our work.
New role for Mr Hollander
Since March 2012 Mr Hollander has been closely involved with Damen Shiprepair Brest the yard and its employees as quartermaster and temporary Managing Director. He will continue this involvement as General Affairs Officer responsible for, amongst others, DSB’s relations with governmental institutions, maritime organizations, the media and local community representatives.
As Damen Shiprepair Brest wants to play an active role in its economic and maritime environment, it will be participating in discussions with French maritime interest groups and in particular discussions on maritime initiatives in Brittany.
