New York-New Jersey truckers honor APL for fifth straight year
PORT NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 6 SEPTEMBER 2010 – For the fifth straight year, truckers say global shipping line APL has the best container terminal in New York and New Jersey. The Bi-State Motor Carriers this week honored APL’s South Kearny, NJ terminal with two awards.
The honors included:
- Best Off-Dock Terminal; and
- A Customer Service Award for APL Equipment Supervisor George Crisci.
APL receives the hardware at the motor carriers’ annual ceremony later this month. The organization represents truckers who serve the Ports of New York and New Jersey. They’ve honored APL every year since 2006.
“This is important recognition for us,” said William Vossen, Director of Terminal Operations for APL. “The truckers who call at our terminals are valued customers, and if they’re happy, it means we’re doing our job.”
APL’s South Kearny facility, adjacent to a rail ramp three miles from Port Newark, is APL’s primary supply point for New York and New Jersey terminals and a dedicated intermodal terminal for cargo moving in and out of the Northeast. It can hold up to 1,750 40-foot containers on chassis for rapid discharge to ships or trains.
The terminal is considered one of the most efficient in the port region. On average, it takes truckers only 26 minutes to drop off one container at the terminal and pick up another.
