NYK and YLK Jointly Hold Seminar for National Staff from Offices around the World
From October 7 to 11, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK; head office: Chiyoda-ku,Tokyo; president: Yusumi Kudo) and Yusen Logistics Co., Ltd. (YLK; headoffice: Minato-ku, Tokyo; president: Hiromitsu Kuramoto) jointly conductedtheir 2013 Global NYK/YLK Week, a training seminar targeting NYK and YLKnational staff from around the world. Twenty-eight staff members ? 14 fromNYK and 14 from YLK ? were selected from the Group’s global business basesto attend the seminar.The seminar was held in Tokyo and Kyoto and aimed to foster a sense ofsolidarity among the Group members by promoting mutual understanding acrossnational, company, and divisional boundaries. Since last year, the seminarhas been jointly organized by NYK and YLK, aiming to further strengthenlinkages and networks within the Group.This year’s seminar was held under the theme, 塗ichWhat will be the keychallenges for the NYK Group over the next five years?罵och Participantsactively exchanged opinions during various programs designed to deepenunderstanding of the business and initiatives of the NYK Group. Theprograms included discussions on the NYK Group values of integrity,innovation, and intensity; lectures on each divisional strategy based onthe medium-term management plan; and workshops focusing on quality andworkplace skills that are the basis of the Group’s competitiveness. Theparticipants were divided into five groups, and each group made apresentation about the seminar’s theme. This raised members’ consciousnessof the importance of active participation in the Group’s businessmanagement.Moreover, to promote better understanding of Japanese culture, the membersvisited various cultural sites and took part in Zen meditation in Kyoto.It is expected that all participants will take their experiences from thefive-day seminar back home to share with their colleagues. The NYK Groupwill continue to foster national staff members working at the Group’sglobal business bases to promote NYK’s continuing growth as a globalcompany.
