Peel Ports Group to Implement Navis N4
OAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Navis, the global technology standard for managing the movement of cargo through terminals, today announced that Peel Ports Group will begin to implement Navis’ N4 terminal operating system (TOS). N4 will allow Peel Ports to streamline operations and align the customer experience across eight terminal sites located in the UK and Ireland.
Peel Ports is the second largest port group in the UK, handling 65 million tons of cargo and 26,000 vessel moves per year. In terms of container market the group currently handles 1.2 million TEU per annum and expects volumes to grow to 2.3 million TEU over the next five years. Peel Ports is investing in N4 to integrate all of the company’s container terminals, enabling the business to standardize the operations and centralize visibility. To ensure a smooth transition from SPARCS 3.7 and other in-house systems, Peel Ports Group will be rolling out N4 one terminal at a time over the next 3-4 years, beginning with Royal Seaforth Container Terminal and the new terminal Liverpool2, both located at the Port of Liverpool. The terminals have put large, dedicated internal and external teams in place to manage the implementation processes to ensure continued positive customer experiences.
“We are ready as a group for this performance enhancing technology as we are committed to delivering world-class customer service,” said David Huck, Port Director at Peel Ports. “We operate in an increasingly competitive market and understand that in order to continue growing our business, we need to continue to invest in our customers. Full integration of the terminal operating technology is an essential part of this process. We want to use Liverpool 2 as an opportunity to drive further change across the business. The terminal will enable Peel Ports to clearly demonstrate best in class port and logistics solutions, and the Navis N4 system will help us do that.”
The driving force behind Peel Ports’ decision to move to N4 is the £300m development of Liverpool2, which will serve as the enabling platform on which the group will standardize and centralize its TOS. Liverpool2 will be equipped with eight megamax STS cranes and will be the first semi-automated CRMG terminal in Europe. Due to open in 2015, it will be able to handle two 13,500 TEU vessels simultaneously.
“We look forward to working with the Peel Ports team as they begin to roll out N4 across all operations,” said Bill Walsh, president and CEO at Navis. “The Peel Ports customer experience will absolutely be optimized by using N4. We are confident that the TOS will provide a solution that will allow Peel Ports to continue to grow its business and improve the overall customer experience.”
N4 is Navis’ latest generation TOS that gives terminal operators a flexible and scalable platform needed to optimize their operations, either for a single terminal or for multiple terminals spanning numerous geographic locations that can be managed from one central location.
