Port of Oakland Press Release - Port of Oakland Welcomes New Commissioner Michael Colbruno

Oakland, CA – July 11, 2013 – On Thursday, July 11, 2013, former City of Oakland Planning Commissioner Michael Colbruno began his service as a Port of Oakland commissioner, participating in his first Port Board meeting. Mr. Colbruno was nominated by Oakland Mayor Jean Quan and unanimously approved as a Port Commissioner by the Oakland City Council on May 7, 2013. “I look forward to continuing my service to the community by joining the governing board of the economic engine of this region – the Port of Oakland,” stated Commissioner Colbruno. Commissioner Michael Colbruno is currently a partner in the Milo Group of California, a public affairs firm, and managing member of Iris Outdoor, a billboard advertising firm. From 1999-2010, Mr. Colbruno served as Vice President of Government Affairs for Clear Channel Outdoor/Northern California. Prior to joining Clear Channel, Mr. Colbruno worked in local and state government as a legislative director and chief-of-staff in the San Francisco Mayor’s office, San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and California State Legislature. Throughout his extensive career in public affairs, Commissioner Colbruno has overseen legislative activities and intergovernmental advocacy initiatives, media relations, and community affairs throughout the Bay Area.

Mr. Colbruno was appointed by three successive Oakland mayors to serve on the City’s Planning Commission, and during his tenure was selected to oversee the City’s rezoning effort. In addition to this prior public service, Commissioner Colbruno has served as chair of the Chabot Space & Science Center and chair/founder of the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra Corporate Counsel. He is currently a board member of the Merola Opera Program in San Francisco and the Berkeley Music Group, which is renovating the UC Berkeley Theater. He was named the “Corporate Citizen of the Year” by the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.

About the Oakland Board of Port Commissioners: The Port of Oakland is governed by a seven-member Board of Port Commissioners. The Board governance was established in 1927 to oversee the tidelands entrusted to the Port of Oakland by the State of California. Members must be residents of the City of Oakland, nominated by the Mayor, and appointed by the Oakland City Council to staggered 4-year terms without term limits. All Port Commissioners are volunteers and receive no compensation for their service to the Port of Oakland.
