Port of San Diego to Host Export Training Event for Small Businesses
Small business owners in San Diego that are considering exporting will learn about trade resources to help them access foreign market opportunities at a special training session Wednesday, August 21, 2013.
While the event is fully booked and not open to the public, the Port of San Diego is offering a free livestream of the program. The livestream can be accessed on its website,portofsandiego.org, and from its Ustream channel, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A recorded version will be made available after the event.
The export-focused training, "Trade Resources for San Diego Exporters," is made possible at no cost to participants by the U.S. Small Business Administration – San Diego Office, San Diego Center for International Trade Development, the Port of San Diego, and the U.S. Department of Commerce – San Diego Export Assistance Center.
Topics of discussion will include:
- Identifying and expanding overseas markets
- Legal aspects of international trade
- Financing export sales
- Ports, global logistics and the supply chain
- Opportunities in Mexico
- California State Trade and Export Promotion (CalSTEP)
The goal is to promote exports, as part of the Obama Administration's National Export Iniative (NEI), to strengthen the nation's economy, support additional jobs, and ensure long-term, sustainable growth.
As part of its efforts to support maritime commerce, the Port of San Diego is among numerous regional partners currently participating in the San Diego Metropolitan Export Initiative (SDMEI), led by the Brookings Institution, an internationally renowned think tank based in Washington, D.C. SDMEI Core members include the City of San Diego, San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation, U.S. Department of Commerce, San Diego Regional Airport Authority, World Trade Center San Diego, Tijuana Economic Development Corporation, BIOCOM, CONNECT, JP Morgan Chase and UCSD.
